  42. Well, you can try a few obvious places, Hamfests, Want-Ad's in QST and other
  43. ham-oriented magazines, or the Yellow Sheets. Frankly, here on the east coast,
  44. most hamfests have become either junkyards for misc commercial electronic junk, 
  45. or computer swap meets where you have major computer dealers, and used computer
  46. dealers selling their wares along with software. Most hamfests don't have 
  47. very much ham radio gear there any more, but it's useful to look, bring cash,
  48. and prepare to dicker a bit.

  50. Regarding QST, CQ, 73, and World Radio magazines, usually the ad's placed are
  51. at least 3 months old (due to lead time for the magazine to be published). You
  52. may get lucky, but most people probrably would have sold the gear by the time
  53. it hits the streets within the magazine.

  55. Yellow sheets....There are a few bi-weekly newspapers that are oriented to
  56. selling rigs. One of the best is the Yellow Sheets. Look in QST for a AD to
  57. get their address. They offer a mini 4 issue subscription pretty cheap, and you
  58. can find about anything from soup to nuts in there. Again, have cash ready and
  59. be prepared to call quickly since most popular items (and cheap ones) go 
  60. quickly.

  62. One last place, in QST there are a few places that advertise used gear, 
  63. Assoicated Radio is one of them, get a idea of how much you have to spend, and
  64. give them a call, find out their guarentee, and shipping when you make the
  65. call, so you know beforehand. There are several besides Associated Radio, and
  66. this may run your phone bill up a bit since most places don't accept calls
  67. for used gear on their 800 lines, since it costs them for the call.

  80. I'm looking to purchase a new stereo and I was wondering if you might
  81. provide some insight and advice.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  83. I would like a stereo with excellent sound quality for classical and
  84. rock music.  I would like 2 tape drives and a 1+ CD platter for
  85. continuous play.  Friends have tried to encourage me towards getting
  86. surround sound, but that raises the price even more.

  88. What are some good name brands?  Where are the best stores to shop for
  89. whole systems and components?  Is surround sound worth it?
